Why INDT?

What are the benefits of having a degree in Industrial Technology from Mississippi State University?

In-demand Careers for an In-demand Field

In high-demand. Technology. Let's face it, it's everywhere! As technology advances, so does the training required to design, operate, and manage that technology. That's where we step in! Industry partners from all around the region (and even the country) rely on graduates from INDT @ MSU to bring the future of technology into the production operations of today. As technology increases, so will the demand for forward-thinking, tech-savvy problem solvers. In fact, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) estimates that Industrial Techology positions will increase by 8% over the next ten years!

Quality Training. What is an industrial technologist? This is a catch-all phrase for various roles that design, operate, or manage the technology used in the production, process, manufacturing, and industrial fields. Essentially, we'll train you to use technology to develop and maintain integrative systems for industrial and commercial establishments. Our program will also teach you fundamental concepts of management, including project management, human relations, decision making, and quality assurance / lean design. Our dedicated faculty know that learning comes in all shapes and sizes, and the standard lecture-based learning environment isn't always the best fit for our students. Because of this, INDT @ MSU has developed a learner-centered curriculum that imploys hands-on, project based learning environments whenever possible. To meet the ever demanding needs of industry stakeholders, our program boasts several current and in progress accreditation and certifications to ensure that we are giving our students high-quality opportunities for learning that exceed industry standards.

Proven results. Because of the high level of demand for Industrial Technologists (a catch-all term used to describe various roles in the industry), the INDT @ MSU program boasts that 84% of INDT graduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school within 6 months of graduation. Many students who CO-OP or complete internships go on to full careers with their host company. Graduates most often move into management or supervisor-type positions, but roles and titles span a vast plane due to the interdisciplinary nature of the training. With a bachelor's degree in INDT @ MSU, graduates are prepared to enter the workforce as an entry-level industrial technologist with an average starting salary of $50,000+ a year, but this can vary depending on the title and responsibilities.

Love what you do! Professionals in the applied engineering and manufacturing technology fields are not only highly sought after, they love what they do! Year after year, these go-getters report high job satisfaction rates and hold some of the top paying jobs in their industries. The ability to "choose your path" in this diverse field makes this a highly competitive industry. Because of this, it's important to understand this field is a "get what you give" industry. Professionals with high-quality educational training, hands-on experience, and strong work ethic will land the highest paying (and rewarding) positions.
